Use Your Green Thumb to Push Buttons

Gardening is hard work. Whether you’re gardening indoors or gardening outdoors, keeping plants healthy can feel like a full-time job. Gardening blogs, sites, and books are full of visual cues when it comes to managing your garden. While visual cues have loyally served humankind for millennia, sometimes more precise means of gauging a plant’s health are needed. As technology evolves, so do effective gardening techniques.

Active Eye Quantum PAR Meter

This product requires a small science lesson. For starters, this little gadget measures the amount of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) your plants are getting. PAR is the amount of sunlight available for photosynthesis, and photosynthesis is the process by which plants use sunlight to make food from carbon dioxide and water. Monitoring PAR is important because it ensures your plants are receiving the necessary amount of light to grow. The more accurate the PAR reading, the better your plants will grow. This sensor is easy to use find which plant’s PAR level you want to measure, set the sensor in the soil, and press the hold button to record the reading. Whether you’re inside or outside, use this PAR meter to get accurate readings.

Autopilot CO2, RH, Temperature Monitor

Whether it’s in a grow room or a green house, gardening indoors is a different experience than gardening outdoors. Gardening outdoors requires you to work in cooperation with nature while indoor gardening gives you greater control of the environment. However, this greater sense of control comes with a greater sense of responsibility. You’ll need to know how to monitor carbon-dioxide levels, relative humidity, and temperature in order to be an effective indoor gardener. This monitor tracks all 3 and displays them on an easy-to-read LCD screen. The coolest feature of this monitor is its carbon dioxide alarm that you can set for when carbon dioxide levels exceed or drop below a set level. You can also set the monitor for plant-specific CO2 levels.

Hanna Instruments Grochek pH Meter

When you’re gardening, it’s important to have a solid understanding of the importance of your soil’s pH level. It starts at 0 and runs to 14. Any soil with a pH level below 7 is acidic and any pH level above 7 is basic. If your soil has a pH level of 7, it’s neutral. The ideal pH level for most plants is in the 6–7.5 range. The pH level of your soil is important because it determines the amount and availability of the soil’s nutrients. To test your soil’s pH level, simply stick the white pen into the soil and look at the LCD screen. An accurate soil pH level reading will show up in moments on the LCD screen.

Whether you’re a lifelong hobbyist or a professional landscaper, using these 3 products will give you the technology you need to be the most efficient and effective gardener possible. As huge fans of all things technology, we recommend checking out our blog post on smart sprinkler systems.
